Tourism Ministers of ASEAN+3 Committed to Revive the Sector

Tourism Ministers of ASEAN member countries, China, Japan and Korea have vowed to bring back tourism in the region back to speed.
The joint commitment was underlined in a blended in-person and virtual 21st ASEAN+3 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting co-chaired by Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon and H.E. OH Yeong-Woo, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea on Jan. 19 at Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The number of international tourists visiting ASEAN member countries, China, Japan and Korea went down by 81.5 percent in 2020 due to the fallouts of the COVID-19.
The trend adversely affected millions of jobs across the countries because of business closures and travel restrictions.
The meeting also spoke highly of Cambodia for safely organising the ASEAN Tourism Forum blending the face-to-face and virtual platforms.
The ASEAN+3 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting reviewed their Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2021-2025, particularly the progress of the rehabilitation of tourism and enhanced cooperation towards sustainable, responsible and resilient tourism development.
