Traffic Accidents Drop by 16 Percent in 2021

Number of road accidents saw a year-on-year decrease of 16 percent to 2,670 cases in 2021, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, pointed out recently.
On his official Facebook page, Samdech Sar Kheng said from January to December 2021, there were in total 2,670 road accident cases, killing 1,497 people and injuring 3,615 others, down 9 and 23 percent, respectively compared to 2020.
Samdech Kralahom once again urged for the public’s attention to the respect of traffic laws.
Anyway, road accidents have started to increase since Cambodia resumed its social and economic activities in November last year. “Yesterday, 14 deaths and 17 injuries due to traffic accidents were reported, while there were only 6 new positive cases and a death case of COVID-19, therefore we have to pay more attention,” Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 148-kilometre-long National Road No. 48 improvement project, held in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province this morning.
The Premier suggested the creation of a Telegram group to allow the public to join in reporting any traffic law violation.
Major causes of road accidents in Cambodia are excessive speeding, overtaking drink driving, and so on.
