Transport Minister Pushes “Marine Transportation Act” Development

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, has urged technical transport officials to develop Marine Transportation Act as soon as possible in order to pilot public use of Port of Electronic Data Interchange (Port EDI) by 2021.

As said in a news release of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the minister made the move while presiding over a monthly meeting at the ministry here in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Strengthening of seaport administration and management, and road care, potentials of waterway transport, and project plan on Port EDI were the key discussions during the gathering.

H.E. Sun Chanthol requested his team to take waterway transportation security as priority until a Marine Transportation Act is in place, and to consider building capacity of competent officials in the area.

Supported by the Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Port EDI is a project aiming to better facilitate procedures of Cambodia’s port.
