UN Appreciates Cambodia’s Progress in Labour Sector during Last Five Years

The United Nations has appreciated Cambodia for its rapid development in labour and vocational training sector in the last five years.

The appreciation was expressed by UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren during her farewell meeting with H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, here in Phnom Penh on Monday.

Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren highlighted the UN's assistance to the country's labour sector, especially on social protection, monthly maximum wage adjustment, fight against human trafficking, intervention on migration issues, empowerment of women in their workplaces, and new projects with International Labour Organisation (ILO).

From his part, H.E. Ith Samheng thanked the UN for its assistance, stressing that Cambodia also appreciates the cooperation with it as well as ILO.

He spoke highly of the five-year mission fulfilled by Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren in Cambodia which contributed significantly to the country's development, and pledged to continue good partnership with the UN as well as her successor.
