UN Compensates US$75,000 to Late Cambodian Blue Helmet

The United Nations compensated US$75,000 to family of Cadet Chan Samkun, who died in Mali during his fulfillment of UN peacekeeping mission.

The handover ceremony was held on June 7 under the presidency of Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for Sending Troops to UN Peacekeeping Missions.

On behalf of the committee, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed his deep regret over the loss of four Cambodian soldiers during the humanitarian missions abroad, and thanked the UN for the compensation and medal to the late Chan Samkun.

Cadet Chan Samkhun died on Aug. 31, 2014 during the peacekeeping operation under the UN umbrella in the Republic of Mali.
