UN envoy to brief Security Council on Cyprus talks on January 23

UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide will brief the UN Security Council on January 23 on the ongoing peace talks aiming to solve the Cyprus problem, during a closed meeting, instead of submitting a report, according to reliable sources.

The UN Security Council is scheduled to convene on January 23 with a view to adopt a resolution on the renewal of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) mandate, according to Security Council sources.

The UN Secretary Generals report on the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) will be communicated to the Council members before January 8.
