The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has spoken highly of Cambodia’s decision to lift quarantine requirement for unvaccinated travellers entering the Kingdom.
“UNWTO appreciates the decision of the Government led by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic ─ resulting in the stability of the macro-economy and involvement and support from Cambodian people.
Cambodia is one of the countries with a high COVID-19 vaccination rate, said UNWTO in a statement, adding that the country’s achievement in controlling the outbreak of COVID-19 enabled the successful organisation of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022 in Preah Sihanouk Province in physical format: the 1st in-person gathering of tourism players and policymakers in the region since the announcement of the pandemic.
Based on the vaccination strategy as the key to fully restarting the country’s socio-economic activities, Cambodia has gradually removed travel restrictions with responsibility. The relaxation marks another remarkable progress of returning to a pre-pandemic state.
“UNWTO encourages the Member States to share the best practice in order to fully recover world tourism soon,” underlined the statement.
On July 8, 2022, Cambodia announced to remove quarantine requirement for all travellers not yet vaccinated or partially vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic. But they are required to do a rapid test upon arrival in the country.
If the test result is negative, they are allowed to continue to their respective destinations without being quarantined.
If they were found positive for COVID-19, for mild cases, they must be in isolation at their respective accommodations or at a place designated by the Ministry of Health. For serious cases, the patients must be treated at hospital at their own expense.
