USAID-Backed Sustainable Agriculture Intensification Centre Launched in Battambang

A new Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (CE SAIN) was launched on Aug. 1 in Battambang University, Battambang province by Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery H.E. Veng Sakhon.

This newly established centre will further improve the agro technology in the province, said H.E. Minister, underlining that it will help providing technical agricultural skills to farmers and students to ensure both quality and quantity of agro products and food safety.

Transferring agro techniques to farmers is the main key for increasing agro products in line with increasing trend of agricultural product market, he added.

CE SAIN was supported by USAID for five years, from 2016 to 2021. It will work to increase sustainable intensification for laboratory, innovation and nutrition, and to build human capacity.

Ms. Polly Dunford, USAID Mission Director for Cambodia believed that farmers will benefit from the centre via training, research and practices on understanding of conditions of agricultural soil, weather patterns, and markets.
