Workshop on Preservation of ASEAN Traditional Sports and Games Successfully Concluded

A workshop on preservation of ASEAN traditional sports and games (ASEAN TSG) has been successfully concluded.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the workshop on Aug. 9, H.E. Bou Chumserey, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, underlined that the two-day workshop discussed the traditional sports and games in the Asia and Pacific region.

It helped raise awareness and promote ASEAN identity through work plans on sports 2021-2025, continued the under secretary of state.

Priorities of ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 focus on strengthening collaboration for TSG preservation, especially in the ASEAN; seeking opportunities and challenges to understand the situation for conservation; and developing the ASEAN TSG, he added.

He was also positive that inclusion of the ASEAN TSG into the study programme of ASEAN member states along with other activities mentioned above will help preserve and promote ASEAN heritages and endangered traditional sports and games.

According to Mr. Ouk Divan, Deputy Director General of Sports of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the workshop aims to jointly preserve the ASEAN identity traditional sports and games, and modernise and upgrade those traditional sports and games.

The ministry is organising two workshops: one is the workshop on preservation of ASEAN traditional sports and games, held on Aug. 8-9, and another on development of ASEAN sports and recreation areas on Aug. 10-11.

ASEAN Secretariat as well as representatives from UNESCO and ASEAN member countries joined the workshop organised virtually.
