Zero-Snaring Campaign Phase II to be Launched in March

The Ministry of Environment will launch a zero-snaring campaign phase II in March this year.

The update was shared by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment in a meeting here in Phnom Penh on Jan. 25.

Senior officials of the ministry’s line departments and representatives from World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Wildlife Alliance, NatureLife, Conservation International (CI) Cambodia, USAID Morodok Baitang, USAID Cambodia Green Future, Fauna & Flora International (FFI), Wild Earth Allies and MJP Foundation joined the meeting.

The free-snaring campaign phase II will be implemented in six provinces including Kampong Thom, Koh Kong, Pursat, Battambang, Pailin and Siem Reap.

The first phase of free-snaring campaign in 2022 covered six provinces, namely Kampong Thom, Kratie, Mondulkiri, Preah Vihear, Rattanakiri and Stung Treng.

In 2021, the Ministry of Environment and partners removed a total of 61,611 traps from 72 protected areas and other biodiversity corridors in Cambodia.

On an average, more than 40,000 snares were removed from these protected areas every year since 2021.
