Cambodia is forming a special technical team to study and research for medicines and facilities to fight COVID-19.
The formation of the team was spelt out in a decision signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on July 30.
H.E. Ms. Pich Chanmony, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Samdech Techo Voluntary Youth Doctor Association (TYDA), was tasked to lead the team along with four deputies and nine members from competent bodies.
The study and research team is expected to explore quality medicines for COVID-19 treatment and test kits for the virus which are effective, convenient and reasonably affordable.
Their role is also to cooperate and coordinate with concerned stakeholders including the private sector to determine other medical facilities to support the fight against the virus, and to document the work and provide needed direction and guideline for the use and dissemination of all the outputs.
The decision came as the Royal Government of Cambodia are taking stricter measures to contain and respond to the spread of COVID-19, particularly the new deadly variants of it.
As of July 30, Cambodia has logged a total of 76,585 COVID-19 positive cases, of them 69,198 have recovered and 1,375 have died.
