Embassy of Japan To Hold “Online Tanabata 2021” in Second Week of July

The Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC) and the Japan Foundation Asia Centre (JFAC), will hold “Online Tanabata 2021” from July 9-11, 2021.
The “Online Tanabata 2021” will be held instead of the annual event “Tanabata Festival” organised since 2004 to promote cultural exchanges between Japan and Cambodia, pointed out the embassy’s press release AKP received this morning.
According to the source, Tanabata is a Japanese traditional festival, celebrated every year on July 7 in Japan to recall a story of a couple lovers ―Weaver princess and Herdsman― in the sky. Based on the Tanabata story, the two lovers are separated by the Amanogawa River (Milky Way) and allowed to meet once a year on July 7. On the day, Japanese people write their wishes on colourful strips of paper and hang them on bamboo trees to make their wishes come true.
“During ‘Online Tanabata 2021’ in Cambodia, we will put branches of bamboo with colourful decorations at the Embassy of Japan. We would like to invite people to join ‘Online Tanabata 2021’ by sending their wishes from June 23 to July 1, 2021. All the wishes will be hanged on bamboo stalks in the Embassy of Japan with other decorated ornaments and will be shown in the video of ‘Online Tanabata 2021’,” said the embassy, adding that everyone can send his/her own wish in Khmer, Japanese or English with name or nickname through the google link: https://forms.gle/pNBfQ2k4ithjAB816.
