Thailand Education & Jobs Fair 2023 to be Held in February

The Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh in collaboration with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Network of Thailand Alumni in Cambodia will orgainse the Thailand Education & Jobs Fair 2023 on Feb. 18, 2023 at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Centre, Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP).

This is an opportunity for potential youths and job seekers to meet leading Thai and Cambodian companies and get information about jobs and employment opportunities, meet leading Thai universities and institutions, and acquire information on scholarship opportunities in Thailand, said the embassy.

An opening ceremony will take place at 14:00 and will be followed by two panel discussions about scholarship opportunities to study in Thailand and tips and experiences from successful Thailand Alumni in Cambodia, the same source added.

7th River Festival to be Themed “Our River for Now and Next”

The 7th River Festival to be held in Kampong Thom province from Mar. 8 to 10, 2023 will be themed “Our River for Now and Next”, the Ministry of Tourism said in an announcement on Monday.

The annual festival will be organised by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Ministry of Commerce, Kampong Thom Provincial Hall, the Olympic National Committee of Cambodia, Kampong Thom Provincial Chamber of Commerce, concerned ministries and institutions, as well as private sector.

The River Festival aims to further promote tourism potentials of the provinces along the river as well as to encourage the participation of local people in sustainable tourism development, the ministry said.

This year, it continued, the River Festival will undertake main activities such as TVs live broadcast for national and international arts performances, concerts and fireworks; and Khmer and international food and beverage fair, tourism product exhibition, agri-tourism and local commercial products exhibition, and the presentation of the tourism development projects from each province along the river.

Water sports activities performed by national and international sport players are also part of the main programme in the annual festival, the source added.

The ministry also invited all national and international tourists to visit and celebrate this important festival.

River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces, and the first round was organised in Kratie in 2015, followed by the second in Stung Treng, the third in Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum, the fourth in Kandal, the fifth in Kampong Chhnang, and the sixth in Battambang.

GDCE, KCS to Strengthen Cooperation to Promote Trade and Investment Activities

General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, and Korea Customs Service (KCS) of the Republic of Korea (ROK) will reach a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on customs affairs between both countries in the near future to contribute to boosting trade and investment activities.

The move was discussed during a recent working meal in Seoul, ROK between H.E. Pan Sorasak, Cambodian Minister of Commerce, and Mr. YOON Taesik, Commissioner of KCS, on the occasion of the celebration of 41st International Customs Day.

Taking the opportunity, H.E. Pan Sorasak requested KCS to continue to support Cambodia through training and capacity building programmes.

Mr. YOON Taesik, also Former Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of ROK, supported the request, and pledged to continue to share knowledge, experience, and support capacity building of relevant Cambodian officials.

H.E. Pan Sorasak praised the close cooperation between GDCE and KCS in facilitating the export-import activities of both countries, and emphasised the importance of Cambodia-ROK Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force in December 2022, and which will significantly contribute to enhancing trade, investment and economic cooperation between Cambodia and ROK.

Cambodia Asks KOTRA to Invest in Processing and Packaging of Agricultural Products

Cambodia has requested Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to invest in processing and packaging of agricultural products such as cassava, longan, rubber, banana, durian, mango, and other tropical fruits, to boost the export of Cambodian rich agricultural produce with good quality to the Korean markets.

The request was made by Cambodian Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak, while meeting with Mr. YU Jeoung Yeol, President and CEO of KOTRA, at its Head Office in Seoul, Republic of Korea (ROK) late last week.

H.E. Pan Sorasak highly appreciated KOTRA’s roles and contribution to Cambodia’s economic development.

H.E. Minister laid stress on the entry into force of Cambodia-ROK Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) in December 2022, saying that this is an appropriate time to discuss trade and economic promotion, and increase the use of Cambodia-ROK FTA.

For his part, Mr. YU Jeoung Yeol strongly believed that the CKFTA would improve the bilateral trade which could lead to the increased cooperation in the fields of digital technology and agriculture, and more.

The KOTRA President and CEO added that over 200 Korean companies are currently investing in Cambodia, and KOTRA is attracting more Korean investors, especially in the above-mentioned areas, as well as automobile spare parts, and wood products.

Cambodia, India Mark 70 Years of Relationship with Tree Planning in Siem Reap Province

The Cambodian Ministry of Environment and the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh held a tree planting ceremony to mark the 70th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries at Kesor Kol Sok An Phnom Kulen Research and Conservation Centre in Siem Reap province on Jan. 30.

H.E. Sao Sopheap, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment and H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India to Cambodia presided over the event with representatives from different ministries and National APSARA Authority in attendance.

In his speech, H.E. Sao Sopheap said this tree planting ceremony is very significant for commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and India, and Kulen National Park after this plantation will become an attraction for tourists. He pointed out that this plantation drive is also important to promote protection, conservation and replanting of trees.

For her part, H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade mentioned that maybe Cambodis-India formal relationship is not only 70 years old, but they are historically connected way back to several millennia which provided the very foundation of their bilateral relationship. She also explained that India and Cambodia are working for new historical starting point in the field of Environment and climate change as we all know that India has emerged as a ray of hope in the global efforts to tackle the menace of climate change.

Seventy (70) trees of Rumduol, the national flower of Cambodia, were planting at Kesor Kol Sok An Phnom Kulen Research and Conservation Centre on the occasion.

After the tree planting ceremony, H.E. Sao Sopheap and H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade visited a garden of sunflowers and the construction of homestay in the centre’s compound.
