SENIOR POLICE OFFICER CAUGHT ON CAMERA SHOWING OFF VEST UNDERGOING DISCIPLINARY ACTION


GEORGE TOWN, Police have confirmed that the man showing off a police vest in a recent viral video on social media is a senior police officer.

Northeast district police chief ACP Razlam Ab Hamid said that the officer is currently undergoing disciplinary action by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).

“On June 26 at 9 am, the Northeast District Police identified a video clip posted by TikTok user Tommy.Tan2, showing a shirtless man, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, showing off a police vest to the public in Jalan Air Itam,” he said in a statement today.

In a separate development, police confirmed a March 18 death at a Georgetown police housing complex, following a viral TikTok video by @satees_urimai claiming police inaction.

ACP Razlam Ab Hamid said the two-minute, 41-second video was posted at 6.30 pm yesterday. Police found no foul play at the scene.

He said an autopsy by Penang Hospital’s Forensic Department attributed the death to injuries from a fall, classifying it
as sudden death, and that the case was still under investigation.

Cambodian PM Hopes Tourism Sector to Recover Next Year

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his hope that the country’s tourism sector will recover next year.

Addressing a get-together and a solidarity dinner with representatives of small and medium enterprises and handicrafts from across the country at Koh Pich Convection and Exhibition Centre here on June 27, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the tourism sector is on a positive trend, but it will be fully recovered in 2025.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has been taken different mechanisms in order to restore the economy, including tourism, he added.

According to a report of the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed 2.11 million foreign tourists in the first four months of this year, up 23 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Last year, the Kingdom attracted some 5.43 million international visitors, a sharp increase of 139 percent from 2.27 million in 2022.

FORMER AMBASSADOR NOOR FARIDA LAID TO REST


KUALA LUMPUR, Former Malaysian Ambassador to The Netherlands Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin, who died earlier today, was laid to rest at the Jalan Ampang Muslim cemetery this afternoon.

Her brother Zainil Anuar Ariffin, 72, said Noor Farida breathed her last at 1.30 pm at the age of 76 after being warded for a week at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Neurology Institute of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, due to a brain tumour.

‘Last week, the doctors did an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan and found that the tumour had grown bigger. They said it was not advisable to do anything anymore due to her age factor,’ he told Bernama.

The remains of Noor Faridah were earlier taken to Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru for funeral prayers.

Noor Farida was a prominent figure in the legal and judiciary system and had represented Malaysia in three separate capacities at the peak of her career.

The Perak-born was the Malaysian Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2000 to 2007 and the Malaysian Co-Agent for the Pulau Ligitan, Pulau Sipadan and
Batu Puteh case before the International Court of Justice in Hague.

Cambodia, S. Korea Boost Labour Collaboration

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have discussed more collaboration on the implementation of the Labour Policy Advisory Project 2023-2025 and other related projects in the future.

The discussion took place between H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and Mr. Kim Dae-Hwan, Secretary General of the Korea Labour and Employment Service (KLES) in Phnom Penh on June 26.

H.E. Heng Sour thanked KLES for the cooperation through the agreement on the Labour Policy Advisory Project signed in 2023 to promote training and capacity building of the ministry’s civil servants to increase the effectiveness of service provision to people.

Labour and vocational training, and social security have been playing a crucial role in supporting the national economy towards achieving Cambodia’s vision of becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2050, said the minister.

Mr. Kim Dae-Hwan thanked H.E. Heng Sour for the support to the project, and pledged to continue supporting the
ir cooperation to make it more fruitful, in accordance with the level of relations established by the two governments.

YWP PLANS TO IMPLEMENT SUBSIDISED PRESCHOOL PROGRAMME TO HELP THE NEEDY


KUALA LUMPUR, The Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) plans to launch a special programme to establish preschool childcare centres to help reduce the cost of living for low-income families.

Its executive director Abdul Rahman Siraj said the foundation also intends to offer subsidies to mitigate the rising preschool fees.

‘This preschool programme, besides helping to reduce the cost of living, also offers a different curriculum with an emphasis on instilling high moral values among children,’ he said during a visit to Wisma Bernama here today.

Also present were Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz, and YWP senior manager Datin Dr Ida Harlina Ikhwan Nasir.

Abdul Rahman said the visit aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two parties in efforts to improve the living standards of Federal Territories residents.

Abdul Rahman said during today’s meeting, YWP also expressed the desire to establish a strategic partnership with the M
alaysian National News Agency (Bernama) for information sharing and training purposes.

“We want to temporarily place our media officers or have them undergo training with Bernama so that they can learn about editorial, infographics and media management, as well as new technology in media usage and applications.

“This strategic collaboration is crucial to ensure that YWP’s information and programmes can be widely disseminated through effective news media to the public,’ he said.

Abdul Rahman also expressed hope that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) can be signed between the two parties soon so that the cooperation can be realised in a more structured manner.
