APSARA National Authority Repairs Two Window Pillars at Angkor Wat

Stone conservation experts from the Department of Conservation and Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority are repairing two window pillars, the authority said in a news release early this week.

One window pillar on the northeast side of the Preah Poan gallery was broken into two pieces, and the other at the front gate of Angkor Wat, at the northern point of the Elephant Road, was broken into four parts with cracks.

A stone conservation expert at the Angkor Wat Temple, Mr. Soy Sophearin, shared that damage to the two window pillars was caused by the age of the stone and hot and humid weather.

He urges national and international tourists who visit Angkor Wat to avoid clinging to the window pillars because they are just ornaments and not firm.
