Australia will cooperate with Cambodia on the agro-industry for export under the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA).
The planned partnership was raised by Australian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Pablo Kang while paying a courtesy visit to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.
Australia will also provide 33 freezers to store Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Cambodia, said the ambassador, adding that Australia will reopen in the next two weeks for all passengers with no COVID-19 test requirement.
H.E. Pablo Kang handed over a letter from Australian Prime Minister H.E. Scott Morrison to Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of both countries’ diplomatic ties.
In reply, Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked the Australian Prime Minister for the letter, and welcomed Australia for the upcoming reopening of the country.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to the Government of Australia for its assistance in freezers for vaccine storage and for the planned cooperation on agro-industry sector. He asked the Australian side to consider other potential areas to strengthen and expand the cooperation and relations between the two countries.
In the same afternoon, the Cambodian Premier also held talks with visiting H.E. Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Myanmar, during which they agreed that ASEAN and UN had shared the same point on Myanmar issue, i.e. seeking peace, stability and progress for the people of Myanmar, and what must be done immediately are end of violence, distribution of humanitarian assistance to those most in need, and trust building among the parties concerned, especially through the ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus.
