Cambodia, ESCAP to Continue Promoting Digital Innovation and Sustainable Development


The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), have been committed to strengthening their cooperation in promoting digital innovation and sustainable development.

The commitment was made in a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Dr. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, on the sidelines of the ESCAP’s 80th Session in Bangkok, Thailand this morning.

H.E. Dr. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana praised the RGC for launching the Pentagon Strategy – Phase 1, which prioritises digital technology, and thanked the RGC for its good cooperation with the ESCAP.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet spoke highly of the ESCAP’s significant contribution to Cambodia’s socio-economic development process and reaffirmed the RGC’s commitment to tightening the cooperation and partnership between Cambodia and ESCAP to promote socio-economic devel
opment towards achieving sustainable development goals and building a better future for all.

The ESCAP is an important partner of Cambodia, providing the Kingdom with technical assistance and skills training in areas such as economic development, environmental sustainability, social inclusiveness promotion, and governance, he underlined.

The Premier thanked the ESCAP for its support in drafting the National Mine Action Policy, which is the first time in the ESCAP’s history for its participation in mine-related activities.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also informed H.E. Dr. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana about the policy and strategic frameworks of the 7th-mandate Royal Government, especially the launch of the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1 which prioritises digital technology, an important component to promote new sources of economic growth and achieve the vision of transforming Cambodia into a high-income country by 2050.
