Cambodia, Thailand Upgrade Bilateral Ties to ‘Strategic Partnership’


Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to upgrade the level of their bilateral ties from ‘Strengthening Partnership for Peace and Prosperity’ to ‘Strategic Partnership’ for the mutual interest of the two nations and peoples.

The agreement was made between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and his Thai counterpart H.E. Srettha Thavisin, during their official bilateral meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on Feb. 7, according to a statement released after the meeting.

The two Premiers praised the outcomes of bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand, and exchanged views on the strengthening and expansion of cooperation between both nations in various fields, including politics, economy, defence, security, trade, investment, tourism, employment and energy.

Both sides also discussed regional and global issues, expressing their satisfaction over mutual support in international forums and boosting cooperation in the fight against transnational crime and online scams, and in the bu
ilding of the common border into a border of peace and prosperity.

H.E. Srettha Thavisin spoke highly of the first visit of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to Thailand as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, emphasising that through the visit, the bilateral relations between the two neighbours will grow stronger.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei thanked his Thai counterpart for the warm welcome and expressed his delight with the bilateral meeting with H.E. Srettha Thavisin.

Following their bilateral talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of five cooperation documents: the MoU on cooperation in disaster risk reduction and emergency response between the National Committee for Disaster Management of Cambodia and the Ministry of Interior of Thailand; the MoU on cooperation in the field of science and technology education between the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation of Cambodia and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand; the MoU on Transit Goods
between the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia and the Thai Customs Department; the MoU between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Export-Import Bank of Thailand; and the MoU between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Thai Trade Committee.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and the First Lady, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony arrived in Bangkok this morning for a day-long official visit in Thailand.
