Civil Servants Reminded To Not Make Public Statements, Including On Social Media – JPA

All civil servants are reminded not to make any public statements, including on social media, unless given the authority or mandate by ministries or departments.

In a post on the Public Services Department’s (JPA) Facebook page, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the reminder was issued under the 2024 Prime Minister’s Department’s administrative meeting.

“If found guilty and in violation of any regulation in effect, disciplinary action can be taken against the civil servant,’ he said in the post, which contained information explaining that civil servants cannot make public statements that harm the government’s policies, plans or decisions on any issue, embarrass or discredit the government either verbally or in writing. The ban is outlined clearly under Regulation 19(1) and 19(2) of he Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
