EU Reiterates Commitment to Strengthen Cooperation with Cambodia


The EU is committed to further strengthening and expanding its cooperation with Cambodia, mainly in the areas of trade and investment, industry, education and vocational training, and health.

The commitment was reaffirmed by visiting European Commissioner for International Partnerships H.E. Ms. Jutta Urpilainen when paying a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon.

The EU commissioner lauded the close and long-lasting good relations and cooperation between the EU and Cambodia, and praised Cambodia for her development in all domains, which made it possible for the Kingdom to become a lower middle-income economy in 2015, with a goal of attaining the upper middle-income status by 2030.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed warm welcome to H.E. Ms. Jutta Urpilainen, and spoke highly of the EU’s support in the process of Cambodia’s socio-economic development so far.

The Cambodian Premier also told his guest
of the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1, which focuses on socio-economic development, especially of key measures to promote education and health sectors, as well as the free-of-charge technical and vocation training programme for 1.5 million young people from poor and vulnerable families across the country.

Regarding Cambodia’s LDC Graduation, Samdech Thipadei expressed his gratitude to the EU for its important contribution and requested the latter to continue to support Cambodia.

Besides, both sides discussed and exchanged views on regional cooperation and a number of regional and global issues of common interest of Cambodia and the EU.
