FORMER JAIM ASSISTANT OFFICER FINED RM50,000 FOR CHEATING

MELAKA, A former assistant administrative officer of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) was fined RM50,000, in default eight months in jail, by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court here today for cheating an attachment teacher of more than RM30,000 seven years ago.

Judge Elesabet Paya Wan meted out the fine on Muhammad Anuar Mat Zin, 39, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Muhammad Anuar, who was then with the Human Resources Division at JAIM, was charged with cheating Mohd Zulhilmi Ismail into believing that the official receipts for repayment of fixed housing allowance, emoluments, cost of living allowance and civil service allowance due to resignation amounted to RM30,749.88 were genuine.

This prompted the victim to hand the said amount to him at the human resources division office at JAIM headquarters in Melaka Tengah district between Nov 3 and Nov 8, 2017.

The charge was framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to five years or a fine, or both upon conviction.

D
eputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Azriff Firdaus Mohamad Ali from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Mohd Nazri Abd Hamid represented Muhammad Anuar.
