His Majesty the King Returns from 2022 Winter Olympics’ Opening Ceremony

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, this evening returned from Beijing, the People’s Republic of China where he attended the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The monarch was welcomed upon arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport by Cambodian top leaders, including Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, President of the Senate; Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly; and Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen as well as many other senior government officials and royal family members.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian was also present on the occasion.
In a written interview with Chinese News Agency Xinhua ahead of his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the Cambodian monarch said the motto of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, “Together for a Shared Future,” reflects the common aspiration of the human society to jointly overcome global challenges.
“The words reflect the necessity for the world to work together towards a better tomorrow, especially given the difficulties faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” His Majesty the King underlined.
The motto also demonstrates “unity and a collective effort, embodying the core values and vision of the Olympic movement, as well as the goal of pursuing world unity, peace and progress,” the monarch said, adding that the motto also represents the key values of the Paralympic Games and the role the Games plays in contributing to a more inclusive society.
The 2022 Winter Olympics, officially the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Beijing 2022, is an international winter multi-sport event scheduled to take place from Feb. 4-20, 2022 in Beijing and venues near neighbouring towns of Yanqing and Chongli in the People’s Republic of China.
