AKP Phnom Penh, September 03, 2024 — The construction project of a bridge across the Mekong River in Kratie province and its connecting road with a total length of more than 33 kilometres has been achieved at 44.31 percent, pointed out Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in a post on his social media networks this morning.

The 1,761-metre-by-13.5-metre Mekong River bridge, located in the districts of Chet Borei and Prek Prasop of Kratie province, and the 31.69-kilometre-long connecting road and crossroad to Kratie provincial city are expected to finish the construction by September 2026, he added.

The bridge was broken ground on Jan. 2, 2023 under the presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E. Wang Wentian, former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia.

Built at an estimated cost of over US$114 million, funded by a concessional loan from China, the bridge will link Talus village of Chetr Borei district’s Bos Leav commune to Prek Prasop
district’s Thmar Reap village.

Roads and bridges are important arteries for national economy and are also the second of the five key priorities of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy, Phase 1: Human, Road, Water, Electricity, and Technology.
