NRECC Investigates Kapar Industrial Zone Oil Pollution

Kapar – The Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC) is actively investigating the source of oil pollution in Kapar’s industrial zone, which has been affecting around 6,000 residents since last month. Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad reported engine oil stains at the 9.7-hectare site, which he asserted were not caused by the landowner.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, In response, the NRECC issued a directive notice under Sections 31 and 37 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, mandating immediate cleanup and waste disposal at licensed premises. Failure to comply could result in fines and imprisonment.

The cleanup process, initiated by the landowner, is expected to be completed soon. Nik Nazmi highlighted the potential involvement of syndicates and emphasized the need for an integrated approach to tackle such issues.

The Department of Environment (DOE) recorded 178 environmental pollution complaints in the Kapar constituency this year, predominantly related to air pollution. Nik Nazmi urged the public to report pollution activities and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to addressing these issues.
