Perak Floods: Temporary Relief Centers House Growing Number of Affected Families

IPOH – The ongoing floods in the state have resulted in a surge in the number of victims, with 312 individuals from 89 families being moved to three temporary relief centers located in the Hilir Perak and Kerian districts tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has reported a substantial increase in evacuees at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak relief center, where the count has grown to 86 victims from 21 families, a significant rise from the 41 victims belonging to nine families recorded earlier in the day.

The committee, in its statement, further noted the opening of another relief facility at SK Alor Pongsu this evening, currently sheltering 56 individuals from 18 families. Simultaneously, the Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak relief center in Hilir Perak has seen its number of flood victims double to 170 individuals from 50 families, up from 85 victims across 25 families earlier today.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) has indicated that the Sungai Bidor water level at Changkat Jong is currently at a perilous 4.18 meters, significantly higher than its regular two-meter mark. Additionally, the department revealed that both Sungai Kinta at Weir Tanjung Tualang and Sungai Kerian in Selama have reached respective warning levels of 13.69 meters and 11.21 meters, each surpassing their standard limits.
