PM Hun Sen: Cambodian-Muslims to be Appointed Provincial, District/Khan Deputy Governors

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this afternoon suggested the appointment of Cambodian Muslims at the post of provincial and district/Khan deputy governor.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Interior, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at least a deputy governor of the provinces, districts and Khan where there are Muslim communities can be Cambodian-Muslim.

“It is not a quota, but a policy to which we must pay attention. It aims to facilitate the work process and communication in the community when more power is delegated from the national to sub-national level,” he explained. “This is part of harmonisation in the country.”

Anyway, the Premier advised the Cambodian-Muslims to strengthen their capacity to be able to be appointed, stressing that it is not an appointment just to fill a seat.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the provinces with a lot of Muslim communities are Kampong Cham, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Kampot, and Phnom Penh capital.

The seats of provincial, municipal, district, Khan and city governors will also be increased for work efficiency, underlined the Prime Minister.
