SME ASSOCIATION INKS MOU WITH UTS FOR TRAINING PROGRAMMES

SME Association of Sarawak (SME) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) for the creation of training programmes for its members and the public.

Under the MoU, UTS is to create a five-day programme on Marketing Strategies with Content Creation and a three-day programme on Mastering the Essentials of Adobe Photoshop for Business targeted at participants 18 to 45 years of age.

The programmes for 25 participants per class shall be funded through the Sarawak Business Federation Recovery Bizfund grant received by the association from the State government.

“UTS shall develop the training content for the programmes based on SME needs and deliver the programmes to participants recruited by SME,” said SME president Jordan Ong Chung Siang after the signing ceremony of the MoU at the university here today.

SME on the other hand shall promote the programmes to its members and members of other associations under the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) as well as the general public and recruit participants for the programmes.

“It underlines our commitment to nurturing a generation of professionals who are not only equipped with academic knowledge but are also skilled, adaptable, and industry-ready, a journey that promises to reshape education, empower our workforce, and drive innovation in ways that were previously unimaginable,” he said.

UTS vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab. Hamid, meanwhile, said the MoU signifies the fusion of academic pursuit and practical application, of knowledge and innovation that holds the promise of bridging the gap between academic excellence and industrial relevance.

“This partnership, we firmly believe, will enhance the quality of our students’ education and equip them with the skills needed to excel in the construction sector and beyond,” he said.

Ong represented SME while UTS was represented by Khairuddin in the signing of the MoU.
