SUKMA 2024: Double Golden Delight For Terengganu Riders


KUCHING, There was double delight for Terengganu when they clinched victory in the mass start individual event through Muhamad Iqbal Daniel Mohd Nawawi and named champions in the men’s team category at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.

Muhamad Iqbal’s strategy of ensuring he stayed among the leading peloton with an energetic performance throughout the 146.4-kilometre (km) race along the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Highway here proved spot-on as the 20-year-old defeated 78 other riders.

Muhamad Iqbal completed the race in 3 hours, 39 minutes and 16 seconds (s).

Johor’s Muhammad Faheem Razem M Zaini (3:39.16s) took silver while Federal Territories’ Ren Bao Tsen (3:39:18s) settled for bronze.

Muhamad Iqbal’s joy in taking home the gold medal in his second – and final – appearance at the biennial Games was more meaningful as it also helped the Terengganu team clinch gold in the men’s team category with a total time of 10:59:25s.

ial Ramli, Muhammad Afiq Iskandar Hasyim, Mohamad Aiman Haiqal Mohammad Khairul and Muhammad Adam Ramdzan Razali, also saw Terengganu repeat the double gold feat they achieved at SUKMA 2016, also in Sarawak.

The race today, which began in front of the Kuching Polytechnic and ended at the same location, also saw the Johor team of Muhammad Nazirul Aniq Abd Rahman, Muhammad Adam Danish Afdzal, Muhammad Faheem Razem M Zaini, Heng Zi Hen, Muhammad Amin Ashraff Azizan and Muhammad Hariz Md Hazri taking silver with a total time of 11:00:58s.

The Federal Territories, comprising Muhammad Iqmal Mohd Zarawi, Newjoe Lau, Afif Hazreen Azhar, Putra Haikal Rosnizam, Ren Bao Tsen and Ren Han Tsen, took bronze in 11:01:00s.
