Title: Flood Situation Escalates in Kedah While Easing in Perak

KUALA LUMPUR — The flood situation in Kedah has worsened, with the number of victims rising, while in Perak, conditions have begun to improve.

In Kedah, the Civil Defence Force Disaster Management Secretariat reports a significant increase in flood victims. Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, head of the secretariat, stated that the total number of flood victims in Kedah has escalated to 210 individuals from 68 families, up from 107 victims this morning. Two temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened in the Kota Setar district at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Titi Gajah and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Alor Merah, accommodating additional victims due to heavy evening rains. Another PPS at SK Taman Aman was also opened, with the number of evacuees currently being enumerated.

According to BARNAMA News Agency, This increase follows heavy rainfall that caused flooding in several areas of the district, including Kampung Lahar and Kampung Paya Tok Keong.

Conversely, in Perak, the number of flood victims has decreased to 187 people from 54 families, down from 217 individuals earlier in the day. The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat announced the closure of two PPS in the evening. The remaining four PPS, including the Shooting Range Multipurpose Hall PPS in Hilir Perak, continue to shelter affected families.

In Kerian, the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak PPS and SK Alor Pongsu PPS are still operational, providing shelter to several families. Additionally, the Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Meru 2A PPS in the Kinta district continues to house flood victims.
