Cambodia, Greece Discuss Relations Enhancement

Cambodia and Greece have discussed ways to further strengthen their relations and cooperation.

The discussion took place between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and visiting H.E. Nikos Dendias, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, in Phnom Penh on Aug. 2, on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Minister’s Meeting and Related Meetings hosted by Cambodia.

According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued this evening, Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias recalled with satisfaction the establishment of bilateral consultations mechanism by the signing of MOU on July 8, 2021 and the productive first bilateral consultations between both countries’ foreign ministries held on May 25, 2022 in Athens. They agreed to continue the bilateral consultations on a regular basis to move forward the cooperation.

The two Foreign Ministers shared a view to set up the business-to-business links in order to enhance the economic relations and to explore the possibility for the promotion of tourism cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn congratulated Greece upon its acceding into the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and underlined Cambodia’s Commitment as the ASEAN Chair this year to work closely with Greece to forge closer ties between ASEAN-Greece and ASEAN-EU.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias appreciated Cambodia’s support in this purpose and congratulated Cambodia for the success of its ASEAN Chairmanship.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias also discussed the cooperation on the international arena, during which the Deputy PM assured his counterpart to take into utmost consideration Greece’s request for Cambodia’s support for Greece candidature in some international organisations.
