MOWRAM Warns of Possible Flash Floods

Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) has warned of possible flash floods this week resulted from heavy rain along with thunder, lightning and gusts.
According to the ministry’s new weather forecast released this morning, the provinces of Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk and Kampot, and Phnom Penh capital would face flash floods from Sept. 8 to 14.
During the same period, for the temperature, it would vary between 23 and 33 degrees Celsius for the provinces in the central lowland areas, and from 22 to 31 degrees Celsius for the provinces next to the Dangrek mountain range and highland areas in the northeast.
For the coastal areas, the temperature would range between 24 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Fresh Mango Export Up 251% in First Eight Months

The export of Cambodian fresh mangoes to international markets saw a remarkable increase of 251 percent to 163,828 tonnes during the first eight months of this year.
The figures were updated by a recent report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
At the same time, the Kingdom exported 14,087 tonnes of mango jam and over 4,000 tonnes of mango syrup, up 195 and 79 percent, respectively compared to the same period last year.
Main markets for Cambodian mango products include Vietnam, Thailand, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, the Philippines, Japan, United Kingdom, the U.S., Kazakhstan, and Russia
More than 100,000 hectares of land in Cambodia are being used to grow mangoes, especially in Kampong Speu, Kampot, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces, and about 1.5 million tonnes of the fruit could be harvested annually.

COVID-19: 511 New Cases; Tally 96,339

Cambodia reported 511 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) this morning; bringing the tally to 96,339, announced the Ministry of Health in a press release.
Of the new infections, it added, 152 were imported and the rest were linked to the Feb. 20 community outbreak.
At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic claimed 11 more lives, but 487 more patients have successfully been cured; the total death and recovered cases in the Kingdom therefore stood at to 1,981 and 91,618, respectively.
The first COVID-19 case was detected in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province. The confirmed cases have surged quickly this year due to the Feb. 20 incident.

Cambodia to Host 7th Greater Mekong Subregion Summit this Week

Cambodia is going to host the 7th Greater Mekong Subregion (7th GMS) Summit via videoconference on Sept. 9, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AKP received this afternoon.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will chair this summit while other leaders from the GMS members namely H.E. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Councilor of the People Republic of China, H.E. Phankham Viphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, H.E. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. Gen. Prayuth Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and H.E. Masatsugu Asakawa, President of the Asian Development Bank, will attend the meeting.
Under the theme “GMS: Renewed Strength to Face the Challenges of the New Decade”, the meeting will review the progress of the cooperation since the 6th Summit held on Mar. 31, 2018 in Viet Nam and chart future activities and direction of the cooperation for the next three years with the support from ADB. The meeting will also serve as an opportunity for participants to reflect their commitments and contribution to a more integrated, prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive subregion in addressing challenges for economic growth and social development in the subregion, region, and beyond.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen will be physically accompanied by H.E. Chea Sophara, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Ieng Mouly, Senior Minister in charge of special mission and Chairman of the National AIDS Authority, and H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, as well as other relevant Ministers.
The GMS programme is based on consultation and dialogue among GMS members. It focuses on high-priorities subregional projects in the fields of transport, energy, telecommunication, environment, human resource development, tourism, trade, private sector investment, and agriculture.

Cambodia to Host the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival 2021 before ASEM13

Cambodia will host the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival (ASEMfest) 2021, one of the 13th Asia-Europe Summit’s side events, on Nov. 22-26, 2021, said a senior official of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has already organised an internal meeting led by the Secretary of State H.E. Ms. Pen Mony Makara late last month to monitor the progress of the preparation for the organisation of the ASEMfest.
H.E. Kim Pinun, the ministry’s Under Secretary of state, updated that that most member countries have confirmed their participation.
They are the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Japan, Russia, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Spain, and so on.
The ministry expects more confirmation, and will convene a meeting with the Asia-Europe Foundation on Sep. 10 to finalise the participants’ list, he said.
The ASEMfest, he added, will take place before the 13th Asia-Europe Summit, and it will be concluded on the last day of the summit.
This international cultural event will be organised mainly with the use of online platforms with the main activities such as performing arts, and the screening of feature films and documentaries, except the exhibition which would be held in hybrid format at the National Museum of Cambodia.
ASEMfest is organised to promote basic understanding of the views and values of the member countries to enhance cooperation and development between the two continents.
