Over 850,000 Tonnes of Fisheries Products Harvested in 2021

The harvest of Cambodia’s fisheries products decreased about 8 percent in 2021 to 856,400 tonnes, according to H.E. Pom Sotha, Director General of Fisheries Administration.
Fresh water fishing was amounted to 383,052 tonnes, the marine products were 125,000 tonnes, and other fisheries harvest was 348,348 tonnes, he added.
The decline fisheries products was mainly driven by climate change incidents such as storms and low water levels, which made it hard for fish to spawn, he explained.
In 2020, Cambodia harvested 936,000 tonnes of fisheries products, of which 3,590 tonnes were exported, generating around US$8.3 million.

Cambodia, Laos Appreciate Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodia and Lao People’s Democratic Republic have pledged to continue strengthening parliamentary cooperation.
The commitment were made during the farewell meeting between Samdech Akka Moha Sena Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of Cambodian National Assembly (NA) and outgoing Ambassador of Laos to Cambodia H.E. Amphay Kindavong, at the NA Palace on Dec. 28.
Samdech Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin deeply appreciated H.E. Amphay Kindavong’s mission in Cambodia, particularly in promoting cultural cooperation, solidarity and beyond.
He also spoke highly of the two governments’ political, diplomatic, and socio-economic cooperation fostered by the Ambassador.
Bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and vocational training between Cambodia and Laos mutually benefited the two neighbours.
H.E. Amphay Kindavong expressed his appreciation of Cambodian NA for the good cooperation so far.
He also thanked the Cambodian NA as well as the Royal Government of Cambodia for the support to Laos in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Siem Reap to Have another Museum

Siem Reap province will have another museum, named “Preah Moha Vimul Dhamma Pin Sem Reachbo” mainly to host Buddhism knowledge and artefacts.
The update was shared by the APSARA National Authority, adding that the construction of the museum will begin in early 2022 in Reachbo or Rajabo Pagoda with an estimated cost of US$900,000.
Once ready, it will stand as a Buddhism museum for peoples in the world to see Cambodia’s art works related to Buddhism by Khmer ancestors.
The museum was initiated by Preah Moha Vimul Dhamma Serey Sovannor Pin Sem, Chief of Monks of Reachbo Pagoda.
Preah Moha Vimul Dhamma Serey Sovannor Pin Sem has been collecting and maintaining priceless Buddhism heritage of Cambodian ancestors since 1980.
The materials collected include Buddha statues, pottery and other artefacts made of stone, copper, bronze and beyond.

COVID-19: 4 New Cases, 9 New Recoveries, 1 New Death

Four new cases of COVID-19, of which one was imported and Omicron case, was reported in Cambodia this morning, according to a press release of the Ministry of Health.
Cambodia’s tally now stood at 120,473, including 19,891 imported cases, it added.
Besides, the same source pointed out, COVID-19 claimed another life (non vaccinated), but 9 more patients have recovered; bringing the total death and cured in the Kingdom to 3,011 and 116,894, respectively.
The first COVID-19 case was detected in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province.

CP Bank Invests US$10 Million in Guaranteed Bond for Takhmao Techo International Airport

Cambodia Post Bank Plc. (CP Bank) has invested US$10 million in Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC)’s guaranteed bond to support the construction of the Takhmao Techo International Airport in Kandal province.
The Takhmao Techo International Airport Guaranteed Bond Signing Ceremony was held on Tuesday between Mr. Charles Vann, Deputy Director General of CAIC and Mr. Toch Chaochek, CEO of CP Bank, in the presence of Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).
The bond interest rate is 5.5 percent per annum with a term of 3 years and guaranteed by OCIC.
CP Bank is the fourth local private company to invest in guaranteed bonds issued by CAIC, while the other three companies are Prince Bank, Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia (FTB), and ABA Bank.
The Takhmao Techo International Airport project has so far achieved more than 28 percent costing an investment of around US$375 million, excluding the cost of land already invested by CAIC, a joint venture between the Royal Government of Cambodia represented by the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and OCIC.
