Cambodia, Timor-Leste Discuss Cooperation Promotion

AKP Phnom Penh, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia has met with H.E. Ms. Adaljiza Xavier Reis Magno, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, to discuss the cooperation promotion between both countries.

The bilateral meeting took place on Aug. 6, on the margins of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, in Phnom Penh.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Foreign Minister Adaljiza Xavier Reis Magno expressed great pleasure with the announcement by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during the opening ceremony of the 55th ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in support of the accession of Timor-Leste into ASEAN. She also congratulated Cambodia on the success in hosting the above-mentioned meetings.

The two Foreign Ministers discussed the suitable date and the preparation for the State Visit of the President of Timor-Leste to Cambodia and concurred to organise some events to celebrate this year the 20th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between both countries. Both sides also emphasised on the need to deepen bilateral relations through regular consultations and early conclusion of pending MoU on trade and tourism cooperation.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn highlighted the process to be followed for Timor-Leste’s accession into ASEAN as well as the necessary preparation for becoming ASEAN member.

China Reiterates Strong Support for Cambodia

AKP Phnom Penh, Chinse State Councillor and Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi has reconfirmed that China will continue to strongly support Cambodia, an iron-clad friend.

The reconfirmation was made at a press conference yesterday evening, after attending the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (55th AMM) and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh.

“After attending the 55th AMM and Related Meetings, I am confident that Cambodia will certainly fulfill well its duties as the rotating Chair of ASEAN this year and boost the China-ASEAN relations to a new level,” he said.

H.E. Wang Yi also noted that Cambodia, in its capacity as the ASEAN Chair, has been doing a good job by making a positive contribution to the East Asian cooperation. He also expressed his appreciation to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding the matter.

Besides, the Chinese top diplomat laid stress on China’s stance on the Taiwan Strait as well as the South China Sea issues.

10th Amendment to Constitution Promulgated

AKP Phnom Penh, The 10th amendment to the country’s constitution was promulgated by a Royal Krom signed on Aug. 6 by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

The 10th amendment was approved by the National Assembly on July 28, 2022 in its 7th session of the 6th legislature and endorsed by the Senate in its 9th session of the 4th legislature on Aug. 5, 2022.

The amendment to 8 articles in the constitution aims to ensure the supreme institution of Cambodia, particularly the executive body in charge of leading overall national affairs, could operate smoothly and sustainably.

It will also ensure the protection and maintenance of the country’s peace, social security, public order, and political stability at all circumstances which is the foundation for the nation’s development and happiness of the Cambodian people.

According to H.E. Keut Rith, Minister of Justice, this 10th amendment to Cambodia constitution is all for the national interest, and will not degrade the country’s multi-party democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The amendment will supplement the 1993 constitution for the best of Cambodia and its people.

Pakistan FM Congratulates Cambodia on Successful Hosting of 55th AMM and Related Meetings

AKP Phnom Penh, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn had here on Aug. 6 a bilateral meeting with H.E. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the sidelines of the 29th ASEAN Regional Forum hosted by Cambodia.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the meeting, Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated Cambodia on the success in hosting the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings.

The Two Foreign Ministers noted with pleasure the existing good relations of friendship and cooperation between both countries. They reaffirmed their joint commitment to working more closely to promote the bilateral relations, especially on political and economic fields while the two countries are commemorating this year the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underscored the importance of the exchange of high-level visits. With that in mind, Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended an invitation to Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.

The two Foreign Ministries agreed to push for the signing as soon as possible of a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultation and Cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries to serve as the starting point for the enhancement of bilateral cooperation, particularly the trade promotion, the establishment of connection between the business communities of both countries and the people-to people linkage.
