Some US$24 Million Investment Projects Approved

Cambodia Special Economic Zone Board under the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has approved four new investment projects with a total capital of US$23.9 million.
Located in the provinces of Svay Rieng and Preah Sihanouk, these new projects belong to HOME STYLE LIVING CO., LTD., MCL HANDBAG FACTORY (CAMBODIA) COMPANY LIMITED, GREEN LINK ELECTRIC CO., LTD. and RAINBOW LIGHTING CO., LTD., said a CDC’s press release issued yesterday.
The four companies will invest in the manufacture of furniture and mattresses, handbags, light bulbs and light bulb assembly parts, it pointed out.
The newly approved projects are expected to create about 2,900 jobs for locals, the same source said.

Cambodia, Vietnam Boost Culture and Arts Cooperation

Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism have reached a cultural and artistic cooperation programme for the 2023-2027 period.
The cooperation programme was signed by Secretary of State and Spokesperson of Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Long Ponnasirivath and H.E. Hoang Dao Cuong, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during their meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Sept. 28.
Accordingly, the two sides agreed that Cambodia will send delegations to visit and work in Vietnam in 2024 and 2026, while Vietnam will send delegations to Cambodia in 2023 and 2025, reported Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
The two sides will coordinate to organise the Vietnamese Culture Week in Cambodia in 2024 and 2026, and the Cambodian Culture Week in Vietnam in 2023 and 2025, it added.
In 2027, the source pointed out, the two culture weeks will be held in the two countries on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Vietnam, along with other activities such as art performances and exhibitions.
According to VNA, the two sides will support and create favourable conditions for the cooperation between their agencies operating in cultural and artistic research, conservation of traditional cultural heritage, fine arts, photography, exhibitions and libraries; and the organisation of cultural and art exchange programmes in border areas.
Vietnam will train Cambodian students at cultural and art schools managed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The specific quantity and time will be agreed in detail on the basis of the two government’s approval.
In the meeting, H.E. Long Ponnasirivath thanked the Vietnamese side for creating favourable conditions for the Cambodian ministry to organise the Cambodian Culture Week in Vietnam.
He hoped the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to continue helping Cambodia to train human resources in the fields of culture, arts, and heritage conservation.
For his part, H.E. Hoang Dao Cuong said the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is willing to support Cambodia in training human resources in the cinema, circus and music industries; and provide scholarships for Cambodian students.

Cambodia, China Appreciate Joint Hands to Crackdown Human Trafficking

Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) have appreciated their good cooperation in crackdown on ringleaders of transnational crimes in Cambodia.
The appreciation was made in a meeting between Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian here in Phnom Penh early this week.
Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng spoke highly of the close coordination between the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
H.E. Wang Wentian congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia as well as the Ministry of Interior for their efforts in addressing all kinds of crimes for mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
The two sides optimistically looked forward to further cooperation especially to ensure security of the two peoples.

OCA Speaks Highly of Cambodia’s Readiness for 41st OCA General Assembly

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has spoken highly of Cambodia’s preparedness to host the 41st OCA General Assembly from Oct. 1 to 5.
The appreciation was made by Mr. Tony Tarraf, Head of OCA’s Athletes Development Department and Special Projects in a meeting chaired by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 41st OCA General Assembly here on Sept. 29.
According to H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Standing Vice Chairman of the OCA General Assembly Organising Committee, over 300 delegates, leaders and members of OCA from 45 countries and 10 observing countries have been registered for the 41st OCA General Assembly in Phnom Penh.
The General Assembly is also expected to attract the participation of the royal families, princes, senior government leaders from the Middle East countries.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen will give opening remarks on Oct. 4 to demonstrate the government’s will and potential to foster national games and Olympic movement in line with the Olympic motto “Sports Build Better World”.

DPM Prak Sokhonn Lauds Cambodia-RoK Cooperation

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have seen enhanced bilateral ties and friendship, leading to greater cooperation in advancing their mutual development agenda.
The remarks were made by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at the reception on the celebration of the National Foundation Day of RoK and the 25th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and RoK, held here on Sept. 29 evening.
H.E. Prak Sokhonn said that over the past 25 years, Cambodia and RoK have had a close cooperation and it is getting better and stronger by day.
With the Covid-19 raging throughout the world in the last two years, he continued, the countries have managed to maintain high-level relations between both legislative and executive branches, including Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen’s visit to Seoul in September 2021 and Senate President Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum’s visit in February and April this year.
At the operational level, the two countries have had a wide range of delegation visits covering a broad spectrum of economic sectors, which have delivered tangible benefits for the countries in key areas of education, public health, agro-industry, infrastructure, the securities market, and civil aviation, he added.
“As we mark this commemorative year, I am confident that our friendly relations will further lead to greater cooperation in advancing our mutual development agenda,” H.E. Prak Sokhonn said.
The RoK is one of Cambodia’s key economic partners and ranks second in FDI in Cambodia.
The Cambodian top diplomat also spoke highly of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement and Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, recently ratified by the Korean National Assembly, which will give a big impetus to bilateral trade in the post pandemic era.
