Cambodia Prepares 11 Tennis Athletes for SEA Games 2023

Tennis Federation of Cambodia has prepared 11 tennis athletes for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.

The update was shared by Mr. Chea Pov, Coach of Cambodian tennis athletes, adding that the federation is pushing for more training and participation in international competitions to develop the capacity of the athletes.

Six of the nominated athletes are getting trained in the United States of America and five are undergoing training in Cambodia.

The effort aims to win at least a gold medal in line with the medal index set by the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), the coach added.

Bulgaria Second Best-performing Country in Europe in Diagnosing, Treating and Tracing of People with Rare Diseases

Bulgaria is among the top three countries in Europe diagnosing, treating and tracing people with rare diseases, Georgi Stefanov, from the organizing committee of a national conference about rare diseases and orphan drugs, told BTA, citing data from a European study. The two-day conference is hosted by the southern city of Plovdiv and begins on Friday.

Stefanov said Bulgaria ranks second in Europe after Hungary while the Czech Republic is placed third.

Data from the Bulgarian Rare Diseases Institute show that around 6% of the Bulgarians suffer from rare diseases. Most cases have genetic causes.

Stefanov said that the Health Ministry has a register for each individual disease and the information is accessible on the Ministry’s website. A rare disease is a disease that affects less than one person per 2,000.

The 2022 national conference on rare diseases and orphan drugs focuses on the modern genetic and clinical diagnosing and treatment of neuromuscular disorders. Some 32 speakers will present the latest advances in diagnosing, treatment and tracing of rare diseases, the development of the Europe rare diseases reference networks and the access to innovations in the field. The event is held for the 13th year running.

Stefanov said that a rare diseases awareness campaign mottoed Like Everyone Else is ongoing. It is organized by the Rare Diseases Institute, the National Alliance of People with Rare Diseases, and the Association of Research Pharmaceutical Producers in Bulgaria.

Cambodia’s Rice Export Up Over 13 Percent in First Eight Months

Cambodia exported 389,000 tonnes of milled rice from January to August 2022, netting more than US$242.80 million.

The update was shared yesterday by the Cambodia Rice Federation, stressing that the total milled rice export increased over 13 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

Of the Cambodian milled rice exported, 65.8 percent were all kinds of fragrant rice, while white rice accounted for almost 30 percent, parboiled rice and organic rice for over 2 percent each.

China remains the biggest market importing 44 percent, followed by France purchasing 15 percent, Malaysia 6 percent, the Netherlands 4 percent, Italy, Gabon, and Brunei at 3 percent each, and the rest 22 percent covered by 48 countries.

During the period, Cambodia also shipped 2,269,210 tonnes of paddy rice to Vietnam.

Cambodian PM: Demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a Great Loss to the World

AKP Phnom Penh, The demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II not only causes a great loss to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth, but also to the world at large.

The comments were made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in his condolence message dated today to The Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland London.

“It is with profound grief to have learnt of the passing of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on the 08th of September 2022 in the Balmoral Castle, Scotland,” he said.

“Her Majesty Elizabeth II, who has emerged as a beloved public figure through her reign, discipline and inspiration, will forever be remembered in the heart of all the British people and many others around the world,” he added.

“In this moment of deep sorrow, please allow me to extend my deepest sorrow, sympathy and condolences on behalf of the Royal Government and the People of Cambodia to Your Honorable and especially through you to the bereaved families of the Royal Households for this immense loss. May her soul rests in peace,” the Cambodian Premier concluded.

Cambodia, UNDP to Further Boost Their Cooperation

Cambodia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) were satisfied with their good cooperation and shared the same commitment to further enhance it.

The commitment was reaffirmed during the meeting H.E. Ouch Borith, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister and Standing Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant to the UN Secretary-General and Regional Director of UNDP for Asia and the Pacific in Phnom Penh on Sept. 9.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AKP received this morning, Minister Delegate Ouch Borith expressed his warm welcome to Ms. Kanni Wignaraja and reassured her of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s full support for the work of the UNDP in Cambodia.

He highly appreciated the good cooperation between Cambodia and the UNDP and thanked the UNDP for assisting Cambodia’s socio-economic development effort and in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He underscored the importance of the UNDP’s contribution in releasing mine-contaminated land in line with Cambodian SDG 18 on mine-free Cambodia by 2025.

On the graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) status, H.E. Minister Delegate pointed out that Cambodia has fulfilled the three required criteria and needed to do the same for second time in 2024 to completely graduate from the LDC status. He hoped that the new Country Programme Document (CPD) 2024-2028 between the Royal Government of Cambodia and UNDP assist Cambodia to realize this goal.

Ms. Kanni Wignaraja was impressed to see Cambodia’s rapid development in all fields. She was very pleased with the good cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and UNDP.

She emphasised that for the new CPD 2024-2028, she wanted to have more engagement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as well as the Ministry of Economy and Finance and other stakeholders to make Cambodia more competitive in the region.

Ms. Kanni Wignaraja is on a working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from Sept. 8 to 12, 2022.
