CDC Committed to Becoming High-Level Consultant Institution for All Investors


The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) is committed to becoming a high-level consultant institution to all investors by providing them with key information about Cambodia so that they have sufficient and clear basis before deciding to invest in the Kingdom.

The commitment was made by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the CDC, while he was receiving a courtesy call from Mr. Paul Clements, Executive Chairperson of the International Business Chamber (IBC) of Cambodia, at the CDC headquarters here recently.

According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, the CDC has been upgrading its qualified investment project (QIP) registration to ease investment registration of all investors in the country.

On the occasion, the CDC vice president also briefed his guest about the Funan Techo Canal Project – a historical waterway transport project linking Cambodian river to the sea route – whose study had been thoroughly conducted by 48-member technical team and international consultants using
international standards and technologies, including drones and satellite.

H.E. Sun Chanthol reassured that the Funan Techo Canal Project provides no negative impact on Cambodian environment and that of neighbouring countries, but it would contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

For his part, Mr. Paul Clements informed H.E. Sun Chanthol about IBC’s mission in Cambodia over the last three decades, and its active participation with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), particularly in the Working Group D of the 19th Government-Private Sector Forum.

The IBC chairperson also mentioned about the IBC’s work direction and action plan such as creating opportunities for members of chambers of commerce in Cambodia, such as Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) to discuss and share experience to attract more investment to the Kingdom.

Some 4,500 Disadvantaged Youths Trained through HOKA Steering Committee


A total of 4,556 disadvantaged youths has so far been trained through the Hospitality Kampuchea (HoKa) Steering Committee of the Ministry of Tourism.

The figure was shared at the celebration of ‘HoKa Skills Day 2024,’ held here recently under the theme ‘Tourism Investment, Human Resources Investment’ in the presence of H.E. Tith Chantha, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Christian DISLER, Deputy Director of International Cooperation, Swiss Agency of Development and Cooperation (SDC), and Mr. Christian Volker Ide, Team Leader of the Skills Development Programme (SDP).

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the HoKa Skills Day 2024 concluded the outcomes of the HoKa Steering Committee from the Ministry of Tourism in a strong collaboration with Swisscontact and relevant partners to train 4,556 disadvantaged youths in the 10 target provinces.

The event also became a platform to share insights and best practice on Tourism Human Resources Development through key presentation such as: (1) Pre
sentation on 1.5 million TVET training for disadvantaged youths presented by a representative of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, and (2) Skills Development Fund support to Tourism Training presented by representative of the Skills Development Fund (SDF).

Participants appreciated the outcomes of the two panelist discussions which focused on: (1) Ministry of Tourism’s contribution to 1.5 million TVET training for disadvantages youth policy, and (2) Coffee industry development leading to increased support for human resources development and promotion of local products, which was shared by honorary speakers from the Inter-Ministerial committees, private sector directors and training school representatives.

Cambodia, Japan to Promote Bilateral Relations in Various Sectors


Cambodia and Japan have discussed the strengthening of their bilateral relations in a number of areas ranging from trade and investment to labour and sister city establishment.

On May 2, H.E. LIM Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, accompanied by H.E. TUY Ry, Ambassador of Cambodia to Japan, met with H.E. ITO Tetsuya, Vice-Governor of Miyagi Prefectural Government, at Miyagi Provincial Hall, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

This meeting aims to discuss the promotion of trade, investment, tourism, and exhibition activities between Cambodia and Sendai, the further increase of Cambodian labour forces in Miyagi prefecture, and the feasibility study on the formation of a connecting city between Sendai of Japan, and Cambodia’s provinces/cities located by the sea, according to a news release of the Ministry of Commerce.

Japanese side is planning to visit Cambodia soon to meet the Cambodian officials of relevant ministries/institutions.

Earlier on May 1, H.E. LIM Lork Piseth inspec
ted the construction progress of the Cambodia Private Commercial Centre and Khmer Village, in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and met with Mr. Takeshi Okami, the representative of Kojima Holdings Co., Ltd who manages and operates the Cambodia Private Commercial Centre.

H.E. Secretary of State noted that the Cambodia Private Commercial Centre in Atsugi was well organised and attractive, and it is an important place to provide trade and investment information in Cambodia. It is also a place for displaying and promoting Khmer products, Khmer food, as well as traditional Khmer culture.

On the occasion, H.E. LIM Lork Piseth highly appreciated the efforts of the Cambodia Private Commercial Centre, which has contributed to the promotion of trade and investment activities between Cambodia and Japan and encouraged the centre to continue to organise human resource training, business matching seminars, and facilitate business for Japanese investors who wish to do business in Cambodia.

Cambodian Senate President Wants to See More Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s Success


Cambodian President of the Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has expressed his wish to see the success of Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s car assembly factory after it was inaugurated on May 2.

In the meeting with Mr. Ichiro Kashitani, President/CEO at Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed the inauguration of Toyota assembly plant in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.

After the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime, Cambodia used Russian cars, then 10 years later, the then government purchased 12 Toyota cars for foreign leaders who visited Cambodia and for some senior leaders, he said.

Samdech Techo added that initially Cambodia had no cars, but now more than 1 million cars and more than 5 million motorcycles.

The senate president underlined that the newly inaugurated car assembly factory is an achievement attained by Cambodia after the change of leadership from the old to the new generation and the outcome of peace and political stability of Cambodia.

For his part, Mr. Ichiro Kashitani briefed Samdech Techo on the Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s background in Cambodia since 1991.

Royal Government Committed to Ensuring Press Freedom in Cambodia


Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said the Royal Government is committed to guaranteeing the press freedom as stated clearly in the Constitution and existing laws of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Addressing a get-together and a solidarity dinner with some 5,000 media practitioners here this afternoon on the occasion of the 31 anniversary of the World Press Freedom Day (May 3), Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia’s press freedom space is growing and moving towards maintaining good order, while the freedom of expression remains favourable.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged the journalists to continue to report freely based on professional ethics.

‘The result of the new survey with 341 respondents conducted by the Ministry of Information found out that 79,8 percent of the respondents rated the press freedom in Cambodia ,very good’,’ he underlined.

Cambodia has some 2,000 traditional and modern media outlets, with about 10,000 journalists, excluding many content creators on social med
ia.
