BERNAMA, YAYASAN BANK RAKYAT COLLABORATE TO ORGANISE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP


KUALA LUMPUR, The Bernama Centre of Excellence, responsible for providing training programmes in media and journalism, has expanded its role through a collaboration with Yayasan Bank Rakyat.

This collaboration, conducted through the organisation of a Social Media Management Workshop, represents the first partnership between Bernama and Yayasan Bank Rakyat aimed at enhancing understanding of digital content management.

The two-day event, which began yesterday at Wisma Bernama, was attended by 37 participants from public and private higher education institutions, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) sponsored by Yayasan Bank Rakyat.

The higher education institutions include Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Muadzam Shah Polytechnic and Persatuan Suri Rumah Rahmah Malaysia (SRR).

Bernama deputy editor-in-chief (New Servi
ce) Nasriah Darus, expressed her pride in the collaboration during her closing remarks and hoped that similar initiatives could continue in the future.

AIA PUBLIC TAKAFUL PLEDGES RM800,000 TOWARDS COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT VIA KONGSI REZEKI PROGRAMME


KUALA LUMPUR, AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd (AIA PUBLIC Takaful) has reaffirmed its commitment to community enrichment and wellbeing by pledging RM800,000 to its ‘Kongsi Rezeki’ programme, a community initiative in collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).

Its chief executive officer Elmie Aman Najas said the contribution will be channelled towards supporting 15 orphanage homes that are the beneficiaries of the Kongsi Rezeki programme throughout the year.

‘We are thrilled to extend our Kongsi Rezeki programme into its fourth year. We are adding four new orphanages to the beneficiaries list this year, increasing the number of orphanage homes to 15.

‘Recognising the importance of supporting initiatives that uplift and empower our communities, it is vital we continue playing our part as a responsible corporate citizen,’ he said at the AIA PUBLIC Takaful Aidilfitri Open House here today.

Launched in 2021, the Kongsi Rezeki programme places a strong emphasis on promoting community well-being and enrichme
nt, with a focus on enhancing the physical and emotional welfare of underprivileged children.

Elmie said the pledge underscores the company’s commitment to driving meaningful changes that brings positive impact to the communities it serves.

‘The funds will provide crucial support in the form of daily supplies, and other essential resources as well as enhance the physical and mental well-being of the underprivileged children through various activities.

‘We hope the contributions go a long way in securing a brighter future for them, where every child can aspire, excel, and thrive in their own unique way,’ he added.

Through different phases of the programme, these orphanages have received brand new laptops, living necessities such as bed frames and mattresses as well as other daily supplies worth RM500,000, benefiting more than 800 children in 15 orphanage homes.

TIMOR-LESTE WANTS TO COLLABORATE IN EDUCATION, HEALTH SECTORS – AHMAD ZAHID


KUALA LUMPUR, Timor-Leste is keen to collaborate with Malaysia in the education and health sectors, which are seen as having great potential for enhancing cooperation between the two countries, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid said this was expressed by his Timor-Leste counterpart Mariano Assanami Sabino Lopes, who is also the Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing, in a meeting after the conclusion of the 2024 International Conference of Religious Leaders in Petaling Jaya today.

“With the available time, I explained various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), including efforts to advance rural areas, enhance national food security, empower TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and develop the halal industry.

“Seeing the efforts and successes achieved by the Malaysian government in developing human capital and the welfare of the people, he expressed a desire to
collaborate in the education and health sectors,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said Lopes also expressed appreciation to Malaysia for providing many educational opportunities for children from Timor-Leste.

“Hopefully, this meeting can bring goodness and foster closeness between Malaysia and Timor-Leste in various fields and position Malaysia as a prime example for regional countries to emulate,” he said.

NINGYO EXHIBITION STRENGTHENS MALAYSIA-JAPAN DIPLOMATIC TIES


KUALA LUMPUR, The Ningyo Exhibition: Art and Beauty of Japanese Dolls, currently held at the National Museum, is hoped to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Japan, which has been established for 67 years.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the exhibition, organised through the Department of Museums Malaysia (JMM) in partnership with the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur, presented opportunities for collaboration in various fields.

They include economy, security, science, technology, innovation, environment, society and cultural exchange.

‘I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Japan for choosing our country to host this exhibition, which holds significant importance for their nation,’ he told reporters after a walkabout at the exhibition here today.

The Ningyo Exhibition at the Central Hall, National Museum, will run from today until July 8.

Meanwhile, Aaron also flagged off the JMM contingent for the upcoming national-level International Museum Day Festival 2024
, scheduled to take place in Penang from May 13 to 22.

‘I hope this festival will raise awareness among the public about the important role museums play in life and socio-cultural development,’ he said.

Themed ‘Museums for Education and Research’, the International Museum Day is expected to enhance public understanding of the importance of museum institutions in safeguarding and preserving national treasures.

Meanwhile, JMM director-general Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kasim said the International Museum Day Festival is a flagship programme under the Citra Nusa @ Museum initiative, which was fully supported by the National Unity Ministry.

‘Various programmes have been planned throughout the celebration involving the participation of museum staff and the public,’ he said.

MCMC, MICROSOFT TO SIGN MOU ON MAY 14 – TEO


KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft on May 14 to develop a digitally skilled workforce, particularly in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector through education.

Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching said they want to collaborate with Microsoft on upskilling the workforce in Malaysia.

“We want to work with Microsoft to ensure we can upskill the workforce in Malaysia. So, we will utilise the existing resources of Microsoft to teach and educate Malaysians on the use of AI and related skills,” she said.

She told reporters this after delivering the closing speech at the International Regulator Conference (IRC) 2024 here today.

Regarding the two-day IRC 2024, Teo said the programme brought together regulators from the ASEAN region and several other countries to share their expertise in improving internet access and addressing cybercrime issues.

“Our intention in gathering all regulators here is to
share views and expertise so that we can implement the necessary framework and bills.

“As a region, we can also engage with platform providers to ensure they strengthen their community guidelines to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups, especially children,” she said.

Asked about the early voting process for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election today, she expressed gratitude to government employees who contributed to the 97 per cent voter turnout.

‘The 97 per cent figure is very encouraging. I hope the voter turnout on May 11 will also be high as government personnel have recorded a high voter turnout,’ she said.

She urged voters working outside of Kuala Kubu Baharu to return to vote on May 11 and celebrate Mother’s Day on May 12 with their loved ones.
