JWP TO FOCUS ON RESOLVING IMM13 IN LABUAN, FOREIGN IMMIGRANTS ISSUES IN KL

LABUAN, The Department of Federal Territories will focus on resolving the prolonged IMM13 issues on this duty-free island and the dumping of foreign immigrants in Kuala Lumpur.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr. Zaliha Mustafa said these issues were discussed during the Federal Territories State Security Working Committee Meeting No.1/2024 in Kuala Lumpur today, marking the first such meeting since 2020.

‘The meeting primarily focused on various security and public order issues, including IMM13 in Labuan and the dumping of foreign immigrants,’ she said in a statement tonight.

The IMM13 is a document issued to Filipino citizens with refugee status in Sabah and Labuan.

Dr. Zaliha also highlighted the issue of illegal settlements by Rohingya people in Bandar Baru Sentul, which has gone viral on social media and assured this matter would be addressed immediately.

Dr. Zaliha also announced the establishment of a special unit, the KL Strike Force, which would operate in an i
ntegrated manner with the involvement of the Royal Malaysian Police, Immigration Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

She said the unit would tackle security issues, including those involving street traders, hawkers, small traders, beggars, homeless people, and other current matters threatening public safety and order in the Federal Territory.

‘This concerted enforcement will commence immediately in hotspot areas, including swift action on viral posts on social media,’ Dr. Zaliha said.

BERNAMA, RTM TO EXPAND STRATEGIC COOPERATION TO ENHANCE NEWS DELIVERY – BERNAMA CEO

KUCHING, The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) plans to expand its strategic cooperation with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) by establishing a ‘strategic placement’ programme to enhance the quality of news delivery.

Bernama Chief Executive Officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the two agencies, which are under the Communications Ministry, can share their expertise for mutual benefit.

Nur-ul Afida said that in the near future, RTM will send journalists to be placed at Bernama’s Economic News Service, while Bernama will send technical staff to RTM.

“Soon we will start the placement programme, similar to an ‘exchange student’ where Bernama employees will go to RTM for appropriate training, and RTM employees will be placed in Bernama’s Editorial Department.

“So this is a collaboration that can help us improve our work outcomes, where we have the opportunity to learn RTM’s methods and RTM can also learn from Bernama, and we both benefit from this cooperation,” she said after appearing on the ‘Selamat Pa
gi Malaysia (SPM) X Apa Khabar Malaysia (AKM)’ programme here today.

Regarding the cooperation between Bernama and RTM in implementing the talk show programme, Nur-ul Afida said it could enhance the skills of staff in both news reporting and technical aspects.

In the talk show, Nur-ul Afida and Director-General of Broadcasting Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman were guests discussing the topic ‘Etika Teras Kewartawanan Mapan’.

The talk show was held in conjunction with the three-day National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA 2024) celebration, which began here on Saturday and will culminate with the highlight event to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this afternoon.

HAWANA 2024, the largest gathering of journalists in Malaysia, is organised by the Communications Ministry in collaboration with the Sarawak government, while Bernama is the implementing agency.

May 29 has been gazetted as National Journalists’ Day, in conjunction with the publication of the maiden edition of Utusan Melayu on May 29, 1939,
to celebrate the contributions of media practitioners.

GOVERNMENT SUPPORT ENSURES FOREIGN INVESTMENTS PROCEED SMOOTHLY – PM ANWAR

KUALA LUMPUR, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said government support will ensure that foreign investments will proceed smoothly and start operations according to schedule.

He said the presence of strong investors such as Mubadala Energy, an international energy company headquartered in Abu Dhabi with investments in seven countries including Malaysia, is aligned with the government’s effort in implementing the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

“Malaysia welcomes this investment planning which is also linked to the high-impact renewable energy projects,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page today.

The Prime Minister received a courtesy visit from Mubadala Energy chief executive officer Sheikh Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed, accompanied by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz at his office in Putrajaya today.

“This company (Mubadala Energy) is now active in renewable energy initiatives and decarbonation through investment in value chain development
such as blue hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

“During the meeting, I was informed on the focus and progress of implementation of Mubadala Energy’s investments in Malaysia,” said Anwar.

DRAGON BOAT RACES SET TO MAKE WAVES IN HONG KONG NEXT MONTH

KUALA LUMPUR, The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association announced the highly anticipated 2024 ‘Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races’, which is set against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Harbour, scheduled to take place on June 15 to 16.

According to HKTB in a statement, this sporting event will see over 170 teams and 4,000 dragon boat athletes worldwide compete over an exhilarating weekend in the heart of Hong Kong which will also headline a series of water-splashing activities.

With a rich history dating back to 1976, the city is recognised as the birthplace of modern competitive dragon boat racing, and nowadays the annual Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races (IDBR) has become a hallmark event on the global sporting calendar.

This year, in addition to race categories for teams of all ages from around the world, as well as the always colourful Fancy Dress Competition, visitors may explore an array of Instagram-ready dragon boat-themed LINE FRIENDS disp
lays and indulge in local specialty drinks and sweets while cheering on the races.

Furthermore, there will also be a food lane lining the Avenue of Stars from June 8 to 16 offering, among others, ice-cold drinks and refreshing desserts for a day to night experience.

MANY NAMES PUT FORWARD FOR SENATE PRESIDENT – ANWAR

KUCHING, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said many names have been put forward for appointment as Dewan Negara (Senate) President to replace the incumbent Datuk Mutang Tagal, who died on May 10.

Anwar, however, said that the list of names has not been discussed yet.

Asked how many names have been put forward, he just replied: “Many’.

“… we just presented the names for discussions,’ he told reporters after a meeting with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Abang Johari and senior state leaders also discussed policy decisions so that they can be carried out more effectively, while also ensuring good relations between the Federal and Sarawak governments.

Earlier, Anwar officiated the highlight of the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024 celebration, which is themed “Etika Teras Kewartawanan Mapan”.
