Almost 2,000 Factories Registered in Cambodia

The number of factories, ranging from producing clothes to electronic devices reached 1,947 as of July this year, employing more than 1 million people, of them some 76 percent are women.

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation released the figures at a press conference organised here on Aug. 11 by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit.

From January to July of this year, scores of 112 new factories were opened while 47 others were closed down, bringing the total active factories in Cambodia to 1,947, the source pointed out.

Those registered factories produced products with a total value of US$7.5 billion to supply domestic market and for export.
