Cambodia Committed to Green Development

As the Chair of ASEAN 2022, Cambodia is committed to boost the green development and green investment.
The commitment was emphasised by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, in his speech at the Global Online Event: Financing of Net Zero Carbon in Emerging Markets, officially held on April 11.
“[…] as the Chair for the ASEAN Summit that will take place in the upcoming months of this year, Cambodia will promote and harmonise efforts to accomplish our important tasks, especially in expediting the equitable, resilient and sustainable post-COVID 19 recovery, reflected in our broad theme ‘ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together’ as well as ASEAN Finance Cooperation’s priorities namely Recovery, Resiliency and Togetherness. In this regard, I would like to emphasise our commitment to the promotion of green development and attracting green investment which are key pathways to help cope with environmental and socio-economic challenges as well as to build resiliency for sustainable recovery,” he said.
As Chair of ASEAN Finance Ministers for 2022, he continued, Cambodia has placed high priority on initiatives such as the ASEAN Catalytic Green Finance Facility (ACGF) for accelerating green infrastructure investments in the region. “On top of this, we will accelerate development of digital infrastructure to maximise the benefits from the rapidly growing digital transformation, through pushing the implementation of initiatives related to ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025, ASEAN E-commerce Agreement and ‘Bandar Seri Begawan Roadmap’: on ASEAN Digital Transformation Agenda,” he stated.
On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth reiterated the importance of international support and cooperation in tackling environmental issues and ensuring sustainable economic growth during the post-COVID-19 period. “Hence, Cambodia would like to urge all developed countries to deliver their promises, both in terms of financial assistance and technological transfers to support developing countries in adapting to the impacts of climate change and building resilience,” underlined the Cambodian DPM.
