Cambodia Invites Australia to Attend Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World

Cambodia has invited Australia to join the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World to be hosted by the Kingdom in November this year.

The invitation was extended by Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, via newly appointed Ambassador of Australia to Cambodia H.E. Derek Yip, during their meeting here this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of Australia’s support to Cambodia in the field of mine clearance, and requested the Australian side to continue her support so that Cambodia can achieve her goal while trying to clear landmine and unexploded ordnance in her own country as well as helping teach demining methods to other countries.

Cambodia became a party to the Ottawa Treaty in 2000 and has been fulfilling its role as a model and leading State Party in the elimination of anti-personnel mines. The Kingdom has been elected by the 164 States Parties to chair and host the 5th Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Pr
oduction, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, known as the Ottawa Treaty or the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World – in Siem Reap cultural province.

Cambodia has been appreciated for her success in mine clearance and war-ending efforts, bringing about peace and development to her people.
