Cambodian Vovinam Athletes Secure Four Bronze Medals in World Championship in Vietnam

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Cambodian athletes achieved a commendable feat by winning four bronze medals at the ongoing 7th World Vovinam Championship in Vietnam, which is being held from November 23 to December 2, 2023.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, The bronze medalists include Ms. Pov Sokha in the Ying-Yang Sword Form Female category, Ms. Eh Preyanut Phoutong in the 57-kilogram Female event, Mr. Met Sary and Mr. Met Sopheaktra in the Dual Form Number 3 Male category, and the duo of Ms. Pov Sokha and Ms. Seu Chanlakhena in the Pair Sword Form Female category. With these latest victories, the Cambodian Vovinam team has now amassed a total of 10 medals – 2 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze – at this regional sporting event.

Highlighting the team’s achievements, Mr. Sean Chanhuot secured one of the gold medals in the Four Element Staff Form Male category, while another gold was won by the Cambodian Vovinam team in the Mis Basic Self Defence Techniques Team category, featuring 3 females and 3 males. Silver medals were clinched by Mr. Ly Boramy in the Five Gate Form Male and Mr. Om Nimol in the 57-kilogram fighting category, while the initial bronze medals were won by Ms. Em Chankanika in the Dragon Fighter Form Female and Ms. Sok Sophy in the 66-kilogram category.

H.E. Ou Ratana, President of the Cambodian Vovinam Federation (CVF), shared that the federation had dispatched a delegation of 37 sports delegates, coaches, and athletes to participate in the international sports event. The federation’s commitment to the sport and the athletes’ dedication is evident in their impressive performance at this championship.

Cambodia had previously made a significant mark in the 6th World Vovinam Championship held in Cambodia in 2019, winning a total of 31 medals, including 9 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze. This outstanding achievement had placed the country second among the 20 participating countries, showcasing the skill and potential of Cambodian athletes in the global Vovinam arena.
