CANCER-STRICKEN STRINGER RECEIVES TABUNG KASIH@HAWANA CONTRIBUTION

JERTIH, A media practitioner, recently diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, expressed her heartfelt gratitude upon receiving a donation from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA today.

The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP) stringer, Nurul Fatihah Sulaini, 39, said that the cash donation from the fund would help ease some of the expenses for her follow-up treatments at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.

Due to her health condition, she is unable to work as actively as she used to.

“I was diagnosed with cancer in November last year, and as soon as I received the test results, I felt like my life was about to end.

“Previously, I often wrote news stories about the struggles of cancer patients, but this time, I have been diagnosed with this dangerous disease myself,” she said when met at her home in Kampung Padang Luas, here today.

The Tabung Kasih@HAWANA donation was presented by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Terengganu bureau acting head Balqis Jamaludin. Also pre
sent was NSTP Terengganu Correspondent Zatul Iffah Zolkiply.

Nurul Fatihah previously worked as a journalist for Sinar Harian from October 2008 until November 2015 in Kedah, before joining NSTP as a stringer in 2016, a role she continues to hold.

The resilient woman attributed her strength and motivation to fight cancer and undergo the treatment sessions prescribed by the doctors to the support from her family, especially her husband, Muhamad Supardi Harun, 38, who works as a construction project supervisor.

“Previously, I commuted every three weeks to the Breast Cancer Awareness and Research Unit (BestaRi) HUSM for eight chemotherapy sessions. The side effects of the treatment made me feel easily fatigued and emotionally unstable.

“Now I am waiting for the surgery date, and afterwards, I will undergo radiotherapy to ensure the cancer cells do not spread,” said the mother of two children, Muhamad Saif Al Fateh, nine, and Muhamad Syahmi Dhani, three.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative by the Ministry of
Communications and Bernama is the implementing agency.
