Consultative Meeting on Humanitarian Assistance Distribution in Myanmar to be Held in Late April

A consultative meeting on how to distribute humanitarian assistance to the most in need in Myanmar is planned to be held in late April or early May.
The scheduled was shared by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, at a press conference on the outcomes of his working visit to Myanmar from Mar. 21-23, upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport this morning.
According to H.E. Prak Sokhonn, also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, the upcoming consultative meeting will allow all stakeholders to exchange views on how to distribute humanitarian aid to the most in need in Myanmar without discrimination.
The meeting will also find solutions so that the aid distribution will run smoothly without obstacle, he added.
Three key points will be also discussed in the meeting. They include the establishment of the ASEAN Troika mechanism, which consists of Brunei (former ASEAN chair), Cambodia (current ASEAN chair) and Indonesia (next ASEAN chair) and the ASEAN Secretary-General, to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5-PC), the formation of the “Friends of Myanmar” group to support the work of ASEAN and Myanmar, and the creation of a humanitarian corridor, H.E. Prak Sokhonn underlined.
The Special Envoy took the opportunity to reiterate that his first working visit to Myanmar was not to legitimise the military junta, but to create a favourable condition leading to the end of violence as well as the utmost restraint by all parties; distribute humanitarian assistance with the support and coordination from ASEC and AHA Centre; and encourage the political consultations / dialogues among all parties concerned.
