H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul Stresses Ministry of Commerce’s Effort in Women’s Leadership Promotion


Minster of Commerce has laid stress on the effort of Ministry of Commerce in actively promoting women’s leadership in e-commerce development and public procurement, and so on.

H.E. Mrs. CHAM Minul stressed the point while she was presiding over the “Inaugural Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2024 in Cambodia,” with many participants, including representatives from relevant ministries, Chargés d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the United States of America, President of the Cambodia Entrepreneurs Association (CWEA) and many other stakeholders, at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh on Sept. 10.

H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul continued that female officials have been encouraged to lead high-level meetings which had contributed to trade promotion and direct policy, particularly in FTA negotiations, as well as serve as trade attachés abroad, including the establishment of Gender Task Force to unite female leaders and officials in formulating gender-inclusive policies.

For private sector, she added, the Ministry of Commerce ha
s enhanced support programmes for women by using platforms such as Go4eCam, Accelerating Inclusive Markets for Smallholders (AIMS) Project, and e-commerce registrations to encourage formal operations and skill development for women-owned businesses.

The commerce minister further encouraged the AWE 2024 participants to share their knowledge and experiences with other women entrepreneurs and help promote the AWE platform to CWEA to expand its local network and form new trade partnerships at global level, especially embrace digital transformation and adapt themselves to the digital era through main platforms like online training with DreamBuilder to name a few.

H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul took the opportunity to commend the U.S. Embassy, Pannasastra University of Cambodia, and Impact Hub for their commitment in making the AWE 2024 possible, a significant step in women empowerment to thrive in business and innovation.
