Kampong Speu Resumes Ox Cart Racing as COVID-19 Eases

Kampong Speu has resumed ox cart racing to cheer the in-coming Khmer New Year as COVID-19 threat is easing.
Happening on April 3 at the province’s Samrong Tong district, the ox cart racing was organised by the Provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts in cooperation with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).
H.E. Sor Soputra, Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu province presided over the event participated by 30 ox carts, 22 from Kampong Speu province, five from Kandal province and 3 from Phnom Penh capital.
According to Mr. Sun Meanchey, the Director of Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Culture and Fine Arts, the racing was cancelled for two consecutive years due to COVID-19.
This year marked the seventh of the ox cart racing since it was initiated to showcase the local tradition, especially after the harvest season and before the celebration of the Khmer New Year, he added
