Kelantan’s Petty Traders Embrace Digital Transformation Under REDI Programme

Kota Bharu, Malaysia – In Kelantan, 1,372 traders have registered under the Retail Sector Digitalisation Initiative (REDI) programme, a key government initiative to strengthen the retail sector through digital transformation. The programme aims to ensure petty traders remain competitive in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azman Ismail, Kelantan director of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), stated that REDI plays a crucial role in framing and fortifying the retail sector. The initiative accelerates the sector’s digital transformation, encouraging petty traders to adapt to advancements like cashless transactions.

At a recent event in Tunjong, 64-night market traders and eight small and medium enterprise (SME) traders registered under the Buy Malaysian Goods campaign, reinforcing the shift towards cashless payments. Surveys in the area indicated a significant adoption of QR Code payment systems, with nearly 80% of traders utilizing this technology.

During the programme launch in Tunjong, KPDN distributed RM20,000 in the form of Touch ‘n Go e-Wallets to 1,000 visitors, further promoting the use of digital payment methods among the public.
