LABUAN IMMIGRATION INTRODUCES I-KAD FOR FOREIGN WORKERS

LABUAN, The Labuan Immigration Department has introduced the Foreign Worker Identification Card (I-Kad) Programme to streamline the identification process for foreign workers, starting June 14.

A total of 1,015 foreign workers are set to benefit from this initiative.

Labuan Immigration Director Raymond Entalai said the issuance of the I-Kad, which is issued together with the Temporary Work Visit Pass (PLKS), does not incur any additional cost for employers.

He said the validity period of the I-Kad also aligns with the validity of the PLKS.

‘Only holders of a 12-month PLKS are eligible for this facility,’ he told Bernama today.

Raymond said during enforcement checks, foreign workers could present the I-Kad as their identification, however, a valid passport is still required for travel.

He said as of June 28, a total of 25 I-Kad have been issued to employers.

Raymond said the I-Kad is available for workers in six sectors: plantation, construction, manufacturing, services, and foreign domestic helpers.

O
n another development, Raymond also reported that the Labuan Immigration Department has conducted 34 operations this year, bringing the total to 252 operations so far this year, targeting illegal immigrants and the misuse of social visit passes on this duty-free island.

‘We have screened 1,059 individuals, resulting in the detention of 58 for violating immigration laws under the Immigration Act 1959/63,’ he said.
