MALAYSIA AIMS TO RETAIN TOP-10 RANK IN GLOBAL PEACE INDEX

Malaysia aims to retain its position as one of the top 10 most peaceful countries in the world on the Global Peace Index (GPI) next year, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

As such, he said the Home Ministry (KDN), through the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), will undertake various efforts to achieve this target.

‘We aim to retain this top 10 position, and the police will closely examine all indicators that contribute to the index’s reading,’ he told a press conference after flagging off the participants of the Police Day Run here today.

Saifuddin Nasution said the GPI ranking is important and should be given attention because being a peaceful country is an incentive for investors to come to Malaysia.

‘Why is it important for us to pay attention to the GPI? Because investors look at such indices before they decide to invest their billions; they want assurance of peace and public order,’ he said.

On June 15, the media reported that Malaysia had climbed nine places in the GPI 2024 to ra
nk 10th among the most peaceful countries in the world. Malaysia was ranked 19th in the GPI 2023 report.
