KUALA LUMPUR, Maxis Berhad (Maxis) has announced the return of its flagship competition, Maxis eKelas HIPMaX StoryFest, with this year’s theme “Celebrating Malaysian Folklore.”
This annual English theater and storytelling festival is open to all Malaysian students from Year 4 to Form 5.
Maxis chief corporate affairs officer, Mariam Bevi Batcha, stated that the festival offers students the opportunity to reenact and adapt their favorite Malaysian folklore through creative storytelling and theater productions.
She said the competition is set to run until July 31 this year, with a grand finale and awards ceremony in August, in time for the Merdeka celebrations.
‘With over 100,000 registered users and growing, Maxis eKelas is an after-school digital learning initiative available for free to all Malaysian students. Students are given the freedom to explore and discover our country’s local folklore and values and retell these stories in their own way,’ she said in a statement today.

ed by Maxis in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) to inspire students to discover their heritage as well as share Malaysia’s folklore with the world.
Furthermore, she said, the competition also encourages students to practise their communication skills and internalise good values through fun and creative activities.
‘At Maxis, we believe that education is the key to changing lives for the better. While eKelas offers online access to quality education content aligned with the Malaysian school syllabus, its related competition like HIPMaX Storyfest adds a practical and expressive dimension to our overall eKelas experience,’ she said.
Mariam Bevi explained that interested participants can choose to compete in the individual storytelling category or participate in groups of four or five in the Theatre category, which would be held as live workshops at 50 schools nationwide.
‘All participants will receive co-curriculum marks or Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani Su
kan dan Kokurikulum (PAJSK) credits, while the winners stand a chance to win attractive prizes,’ she said, adding that the first workshop was recently conducted in SMK Saujana Indah, Penang, with 130 students.
She added that Maxis would also be organising eight virtual workshops via the eKelas learning platform to support students in preparing and improving their submissions.
‘The workshops will cover topics to upskill students with techniques to unpack folklore, write compelling scripts, act with confidence, and direct a theater production,’ she elaborated.
